Life Care Planning

A Life care plan is a document that projects the future costs of medical care and services for a catastrophically injured client. These costs are a comprehensive framework of services that address the medical needs of the client including: medical care, consultations, counseling, nursing, rehabilitation, equipment, living environment, vehicle adaptation, supplies, and other supportive services that may be required. The life care planner will work with the medical experts to understand the complexity of the disability and possible complications.

The life care plan is a vital part of the case management of a severely injured client and plays an important part in litigation. Our panel of life care and economic planners are recognized experts in their field and can help your client obtain a monetary award that is fair and takes into account all of their future needs.

The ideal expert team to make such a determination includes a physiatrist, who is an expert in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation medicine, as well as Pain Management, an economist, and a vocational rehabilitation expert. The importance of the physician in helping to implement or assess a life care plan cannot be underscored. A physician’s expertise is needed to substantiate the needs as set forth by the economist and vocational rehabilitation expert.

The basic assumptions concerning the patient's needs for ongoing medical care, equipment, and support should be straightforward; however, there may be variations and differences of opinions as to the frequency and duration of the treatment plans.

There are many aspects of an injured person's life which may be neglected without comprehensive medically based analysis.
